Organizing a Small Closet in 4 Steps
Posted on: December 17, 2018 |
Is your bedroom falling short on closet space? Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon problem to have. When you live in a major city like Toronto, you may discover that your new apartment or master bedroom in your home doesn’t have the amount of closet space that you’re used to. But, don’t sweat it. We’re here to help you out! Try out these 4 steps for organizing a small closet.
Organizing a Small Closet on a Budget
- #1: Purge!
Pull all of your items out of your closet so you can clearly see what you have. Sort through your clothing, shoes and any other items you store in your closet to find items that are duplicates, you no longer use, are damaged or do not fit anymore. When sorting through your items, be brutal! If you haven’t worn the item within the last year, get rid of it! Items that do not fit or do not get worn can be donated to a local charity or donation center.
- #2: Look for pain points
Do you have too many scarves and nowhere to store them? Are your shoes slowly taking over the floor of your closet? Think back to how you had your closet organized before and identify any problems you see.
- # 3: Invest in closet organizer solutions
There are many products out there that aim to fix closet organization problems. In order to avoid spending a fortune on these tools and solutions, think back to step 2. If you think that all of your clothes simply can’t fit in your closet, consider investing in thinner hangers.
- # 4: Create a system
It is easy to misplace or loose items if you do not have a system. For example, keep all of your pants hung up on hangers on the left side of your closet. Keep all of your light summer shirts folded up in your drawers.
Add Storage Space with a Storage Unit Rental!
If you’ve tried all of these steps and still need more storage space, consider a storage unit rental. During the summer, your winter coat, bulky sweaters and other warm items can be stored until you need them again. Once winter comes around, bathing suits, cover ups, sandals and shorts can replace the winter items in storage.
