6 Tips for Moving in the Winter
Posted on: January 3, 2020 |
Let’s face it, winters in Toronto can be rough. If you are moving during the winter in Toronto, it may be more difficult than a summer move, but nowhere near impossible. In order to make your winter move go as smooth as possible, it is important to follow these winter moving tips.
Must-Follow Winter Moving Tips
1. Keep an Eye on the Weather
During the winter, the weather can change in a flash. The days leading up to your move, keep an eye on the weather. If it’s starting to look like there may be winter storm near your moving day, consider moving it back. Thankfully, because it is less common to move in the winter, you may have more flexibility with your moving company.
2. Bring Plenty of Rugs and Towels
While the moving company will likely have moving blankets and other supplies, it is important to bring your own rugs and towels the day of your move. When moving into your new home, spread moving blankets across the floors to protect them from wet and muddy boots.
3. Hire a Pet and Babysitter
On the day of your move, plan on having someone watch your kids and pets. This will not only be a more fun day for them, it will allow you to focus on your move. When you’re moving heavy items and pieces of furniture, it is also possible for someone to get injured.
4. Clear the Sidewalks and Driveway
To prevent injury and make for an overall easier move, if it has snowed recently, clear the sidewalks and driveway of both your old house and your new house.
5. Move Electronics Inside First
Electronics don’t fare well in very cold weather. To prevent damage from occurring to your electronics, bring them into your house first before unloading the rest of the truck.
6. Have Extra Winter Essentials
As the day goes on, you may find that you or your movers’ gloves are soaked, and you need an additional layer of warmth. To prevent discomfort, have extra warm winter items ready for the day.
